Maps and Road Conditions

Broken Hill is located near the border of South Australia on the crossing of the Barrier Highway (national route 32) and the Silver City Highway (national route 79), in the Barrier Ranges. The closest major city is Adelaide, the capital of South Australia, which is more than 500 km (311 mi) to the southwest. Unlike the rest of New South Wales, Broken Hill (and the surrounding region) observes Australian Central Standard Time, UTC+9:30, a time zone it shares with South Australia and the Northern Territory.

Road Conditions

Make sure to check road condition reports before heading to Broken Hill.

Although the main highways are sealed and not affected by average rainfall there are many unsealed roads in the area which can be closed after rain/flooding or only accessible by 4WD.
